Guitar Middle Neck Notes (Frets 5-8)

The Soloist's Playground

Frets 5 to 8 are often called "The Sweet Spot" for lead guitar. This is typically where the first shape of the A Minor Pentatonic scale sits—the most used scale in rock history.

Beyond the Box

Don't just memorize the scale shape; memorize the note names within it. Knowing that the 5th fret on the D string is G, or the 7th fret on the G string is D, allows you to target specific intervals in your solos instead of just wiggling your fingers blindly.
